8 Different Fashion Styles

Fashion may be all about discovering creative ways to dress, but it never hurts to have a plan. To get you started, below are some of the most broad fashion categories.

Sporty: Sporty style, also known as athleisure, takes athletic wear features such as leggings, cycling shorts, and large sweatshirts out of the gym and onto the streets.

Bohemian: Also known as “boho” or “boho chic,” bohemian style is influenced by the hippie aesthetic and festival culture of the 1960s. Earth tones, natural fabrics and dyes, and designs and accessories from throughout the world are incorporated into the style. Flowing maxi dresses, long skirts, bell-bottom pants, huge brimmed hats, fringe, suede and slouchy handbags are characteristics of bohemian style.

Grunge: Inspired by grunge music and the Seattle counterculture of the 1980s and 1990s, grunge fashion incorporates thrift-store finds such as plaid flannel shirts, oversize knitwear, and feminine skirts dressed in a rebellious, dishevelled manner. Grunge outfits sometimes feature ripped jeans or tights, unkempt hairstyles, and black boots.

Preppy: Preppy fashion is influenced by the attire and uniforms worn at exclusive East Coast prep schools and Ivy League colleges. Preppy fashion is frequently inspired by upper-class sports such as polo, yachting, tennis, and horseback riding. Polo shirts, Oxford shirts, argyle sweaters and socks, cloth-wrapped headbands, boat shoes, blazers, pearls, cardigans and khaki slacks are common attire among preps.

Punk: Inspired by the disruptive punk rocker styles of the 1970s and 1980s, punk fashion encompasses various subcultures, each with its own distinct style codes. Leather jackets, deconstructed blazers, ripped fishnet stockings, thin jeans, and clunky black boots are all common components of punk fashion. Punk clothing often has provocative messaging, band logos, and customisation using safety pins and patches. Heavy black eyeliner, mohawks, dyed hair, and spiked hair are all examples of punk grooming.

Streetwear: Streetwear is a casual fashion trend that emerged in the 1990s. It features comfy yet fashionable apparel such as logo T-shirts and crop tops, hoodies, baggy pants and high-end trainers. Streetwear draws inspiration from hip-hop and skater fashion, with the added element of product scarcity. Hypebeasts are fans of the current streetwear trends, and many will go to considerable efforts to obtain limited-edition designer baseball caps, sweatshirts, sneakers, and other items.

Classic: The term “classic” refers to a polished everyday look that contains workwear components such as blazers, pencil skirts, and khakis. This more formal appearance is great for the office and other places where you want to seem your best.

Casual: Casual clothing is appropriate for the weekend. Consider wearing jeans, a comfortable T-shirt and trainers or flat boots. Streetwear and sports style are both examples of casual styles, yet casual style can also be preppy or cool.

There is some overlap between style and fashion, but a reasonable rule of thumb is that style is more personal, while fashion is more social. Let us examine the differences:

Individual vs. collective:

Personal style is a kind of self-expression that belongs to an individual. Their style is defined by how they dress and express themselves. Fashion, on the other hand, is concerned with worldwide trends and the fashion business. The distinction between fashion and style is becoming harder to tell. A model is a part of the fashion world when she walks the runway. Personal style dictates how they dress at home. When they gain prominence and their style becomes iconic, they may launch their clothing line, transforming their style into fashion.

Timeless vs Trendy:

Style is timeless, but fashion is trendy. Someone who is trendy keeps up with the newest fashion trends and dresses in luxury gear. A fashionable person may or may not follow fashion trends, but they always remain true to their personal aesthetic. Personal style is more about having a feeling of self than merely following trends.
